Opening
Many of us were trained to prize the measurable and distrust the felt. Then a decision arrives that no spreadsheet can settle, and the question becomes which signal to follow.
Kirsten Barefoot has built her work on the answer that intuition, treated as a skill rather than a mystery, can be trusted and developed.
The idea
Kirsten Barefoot is a coach and author who empowers conscious leaders to awaken their intuition. Her journey, as she shared it in this conversation, moved from ground zero to embracing her true calling, and along the way she learned to follow her own guiding light. Community played a decisive role.
She credits a retreat with Dr Joe Dispenza for introducing her to her soul sisters, the friendships that carried her through the pandemic and showed her what chosen kinship can do.
Her teaching blends practical grounding with energetic practice, and she generously shared a live meditation to help listeners reclaim their energy and become a clear channel for insight.
She described how the individuals and communities she met along the way shaped her journey, and how following a guiding light is less about dramatic revelation than about repeated small trust. The throughline of her work is that intuitive capacity is not reserved for a gifted few.
It grows through practice, through community that reflects you back to yourself, and through the willingness to act on the small signals before you feel fully ready. She also described how the practice deepens when it is shared, because witnesses help us distinguish signal from wishful thinking.
What I took from it
Kirsten appeared again later in my conversation with Cindi Buckley, and it was a joy to hear her here first. What stayed with me was her insistence on community as the container for inner work. My own four months in an ecovillage taught me the same lesson.
Intuition sharpened for me when I was surrounded by people who made it safe to say what I actually sensed. Her teaching confirmed that inner work and community are not competitors. They feed each other.
Three things to try this week
- Before one decision this week, pause and ask what your first quiet read on it was, then write it down before you talk yourself out of it. The first read is often the truest. The second is usually a negotiation. Comparing the written word with what actually happened trains the ear you are developing.
- Take one small intuitive action each day, such as messaging the person who came to mind for no obvious reason, and track what comes back. Keep the log for a week and look back over what you noticed. The tracker turns random nudges into a pattern you can learn from.
- Find one trusted friend who reflects you back honestly, and share one unproven hunch with them to hear how it sounds outside your own head. Say the hunch out loud exactly as it arrived, without polishing it first. Choose someone who has been kind with your smaller risks already.

Intuition grows strongest in community, where our inner signals are witnessed, reflected, and refined until they become trusted. The signals you trust in company are the ones you will trust alone, and community is where that trust is first practised.
